Things to do

Beatrix Potter – Visit Hill Top cottage, just a few miles from our Guest House where Beatrix Potter used to spend her holidays or meet the characters from her books at The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, approximately a 15 minute walk from our front door.

William Wordsworth – explore Dove Cottage, the home of poet William Wordsworth, situated on the edge of Grasmere village where you can also taste the delights of the famous Grasmere Gingerbread.

Windermere Lakes Cruises – Tour Lake Windermere by boat, taking advantage of the stopping points to further explore the surrounding area and attractions.

Alfred Wainwright –follow in the footsteps of Alfred Wainwright taking in the stunning scenery throughout the Lake District on walks of varying grades of difficulty.  Burn off our delicious breakfast and challenge yourself on one of the 214 ‘Wainwrights’.

Car hire- low carbon and electric cars can be hired from Windermere train station and other local points making the Lake District more accessible for visitors.

 Cycling – Either bring your own bicycle or hire one from a variety of local hire points (includingelectric bikes) to explore the great range of country lanes, permitted cycle ways and bridleways.  Whinlatter Forest, Grizedale Forest and trail centres offer more of a challenge to Mountain bike enthusiasts.  Bikes are also permitted on certain boats, buses and trains within the area.

Wildlife –  discover rare plants, otters, red squirrels, birds of prey and much more whilst out and about or wander through one of the local nature reserves for close up encounters.

Brockhole – has a little something for everyone.  Treetop Trek and adventure playground and grounds with beautiful gardens leading down to the lake shore where you can hire kayaks, canoes, rowing boats or climb aboard one of the lake cruises.  Café and numerous children’s play areas make it an ideal day out for all the family.

Mountain Goat – join one of the award winning minibus tours of the vast landscape encompassing lakes, mountains, valleys and waterfalls.

Water sports – wide range of water sport instruction and hire available from Low Wood Bay Water sports Centre.

Facilities offered include Indoor 20 metre Swimming Pool with views of Lake Windermere, Fully equipped Techno gym, Thermal Suite, Rock Sauna, Aroma room and Ice room.

Choices Health Club, Troutbeck Bridge Windermere, 

Facilities offered include Indoor 15 metre Swimming Pool, functional fitness zone, fixed strength cardio suites, dedicated spinning studio, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, solarium and Personal Training.

Low Wood Bay, between Windermere and Ambleside, currently undergoing a refit so we are awaiting new information.
